2018 Dirty Sellwood: Gettin Furry on Fir Mountain
Sunday, September 2nd, 2018
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED! EVENT IS FULL!
Below details are still subject to change.
-The course is an awesome tour of Hood River county including two areas that for most folks will be a new experience, including the Fir Mountain area that is the theme for this years ride. It comes late in the day, appropriately, as it has been the scene of many hallucinatory bonks for many of us here at the shop. Furries are a subculture interested in fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics according to Wikipedia. They are also what we see when we are experiencing the aforementioned hallucinatory bonk.
Yep, that’s right. This year’s theme is FURRIES!
-8AM-9AM Coffee, check in, and opening ceremonies at Dirty Fingers.
-9AM sharp for rollout.
-Ride is free, but there are limited spots available (REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. The event is full). We ask a $40 donation which exclusively covers ride support in the form of 2 stocked aid stations, lunch, a commemorative souvenir and map, beer, and dinner when the ride is done. What a deal!
-There will be camping available for those wishing to stay the night in Hood River.
-90 miles, roughly 9600 vert.
-Course is 60% pavement 40% gravel, some of which we call “aggressive gravel” which is a name we have coined, and if it becomes the next big thing in the bike industry, we own it.
-Because of the aggressive gravel we urge all riders to come with no less than 700x35c tires with some form of puncture protection and plenty of means for fixing flats.
-The course has three of what we call “Nancy Kerrigan moments of pain” WHY? – YouTube and will be noted as such on the official map.
-There is potential aid at mile 34 in Parkdale (Mc Issacs grocery store), Cooper Spur Resort (Crooked Tree Tavern) at mile 44, lunch stop at mile 54, and the margarita station at mile 77.
-Course elevation ranges from 309 ft at the shop to 4,300 ft up on Hwy 44 so bring appropriate clothing. Early September is usually warm and dry but the weather disaster of three years ago should be a warning that anything can happen so come prepared.
-This year also has a commemorative gift! In the world of Furries, once you have fully transitioned and chosen your “fursona” you get your tail. Therefore riders who finish the course will “earn their tail”. Furry tails will be worn by all finishers at the after party. Good times.
